February is Heart Health Awareness Month!
And trust me the irony is not lost on me that I went in for my most recent robot heart tune-up on February 1st of all days. It is moments like these that remind me how beautifully balance my life is and let's me see that the world is exactly how should be. Sometimes the universe is just too perfect isn't it?
This is my perfectly imperfect life. And I like to think that maybe I was given this life for a reason. And maybe this latest greatest medical misadventure has a reason too.
My heart has long been a source of sadness, frustration, and pain. But it has also allowed me to live this beautiful life than I am so so grateful for. It has been my constant companion, working hard, and beating endlessly.
It is easy to take your body for granted. To expect it to work hard, but forget to thank it for all it does for you each and every day. I started running and leading this lifestyle as a way to keep my heart happy and healthy. You always get back what you put in, so this is my promise to always to care of my heart and my health.
This month I am teaming up with Mizuno Canada for the Happy Heart Project.
We are asking you to make a commitment to your Heart this month! And that means we want you to get moving! The Heart and Stroke Foundation recommends 30 minutes of moderate exercise 5x a week to maintain a Happy Healthy Heart. So let's thank our hearts this month for all that they do!
And I will thank you with a chance to win your choice of a Brand New Pair of Mizunos every week for the next 3 weeks! WEEEEEE!! Who doesn't want a new free pair of running shoes?! Mizuno has long been my running shoe of choice, but their commitment to health and wellness as we work together on this campaign puts them a head above the rest in my books!

Your heart is there for you in ways that you don't even notice. Mine might need a little robot assistance, but it is still strong and steady. And it is always there for me. For all of that, and for this life that I have been blessed with - I am saying "Thank You" with all that I have. I hope you will join me!
Love your Favourite Darwinian Fail,
Krysten

ReplyDeleteMy commitment to my heart this week is a yummy one...I plan to eat lots of avocados, which are full of heart healthy unsaturated fats! Admittedly, I was going to answer with 'running', but found a large bag of hass avocados on sale at the store, so I'm going to commit to eating these babies! So far I've put one in a smoothie and had another with quinoa salad; I'll have to get creative as the week goes on... Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWith such an inspiring leader, how could I not jump right on board? I'm so in. Cardio, strength training, more fresh produce for me this month.

ReplyDeleteYesterday, someone on Twitter told me to "calm down and not have a heart attack" since I tweeted about how I did a 10k and a mud run in the same day... so a 15k. I responded that "after 25 years of inactivity, I've turned my life around- I was closer to a heart attack last year with poor eating choices and inactivity than I am with a crazy day of running!"
ReplyDeleteI lost my Gram to heart disease after suffering a stroke, many of my family members are overweight or obese- in 2013 I've been taking charge of my health by committing to 13 half marathons. I told myself for 25 years my body "was what it was, I am not an athlete" and it was the worst lie I ever told myself.
I LOVE Mizunos- they're my shoe of choice too, since the first day I got fitted last July. With 13 half marathons I'm going to need a few pairs this year, wink wink!
